The Institute of Life Sciences of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, in view of the possible opening of a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor [‘Ricercatore di tipo B’ (RTDB) in the Italian system], seeks expressions of interest from researchers working on the molecular physiology of plants.

The ideal candidate should have a solid background in plant physiology, with emphasis on molecular approaches to the study of plant growth and development. Previous experience on the study of plant responses to abiotic stress, especially flooding and hypoxia-related stresses will be of special interest. Knowledge and experience with the identification of the genes behind phenotypes of plants, and with the most recent approaches in the study of plant physiology will also be important.

S/he should develop research activities in one, or more, of the following areas: plant physiology, plant adaptation to the environment and plant stress responses. The overall objective of his/her research will be to identify and develop innovative research activities dealing with plant growth and development, and its modulation by environmental cues. The ideal candidate will also develop and apply new tools to understand the physiology of plants, the identification of gene function, the adaptation of plants to climate changes.

We encourage application from candidates with:

  • a PhD degree;
  • an excellent scientific publication track record;
  • experience in acquiring and managing research funds from international/EU/national funding agencies;
  • experience in teaching academic courses, and in tutoring MSc and PhD students;
